Facilitation Skills - Trisha's Story

Case Study - Before

Trisha had never facilitated before, she was very anxious about the new role and was concerned that the group would be uncontrollable and would not respect her. She had attended a number of facilitations before, but there she had been a participant and she had mixed experiences of them. She was unsure of what her actual role would be, but was keen to develop new skills to help her along.

Case Study - After

After attending our Facilitation Skills course, Trisha felt more confident in what the actual role involved. She learned a number of processes to help with managing the group effectively, she also covered a series of different process tools to encourage participation even with a quiet group.

Trisha saw how ground rules and having clear outcomes were essential in developing an effective facilitation. She also learned a number of different techniques for managing difficult participants.

Benefits

After the course Trisha conducted her first facilitation, although she was nervous she had done excellent preparation and that gave her confidence. She used a number of process tools to help the group identify problems and she controlled the group using a round robin method, this help reduce the disruption usually caused by dominant people. Her group achieved the set outcomes and felt the facilitation was an excellent use of time.
