How to write on a whiteboard for your audiences needs

Set up the easel and chart before starting - don't struggle in front of the audience. Bring your own pens - don't rely on the ones at the venue working properly. Special dry wipe markers must be used or they won't erase - and keep the caps on when not in use as they dry out quickly! Print your letters - joined writing is difficult to read and all capitals tires the eyes! Writing should be about 2 inches high - stand at the back of the room and ensure it is legible.

Stand to one side - don't obscure the chart or have your back to the audience (write 'sideways' if possible). Never use any kind of tape - stick things such as posters with magnets - tape will damage the surface coating. Divide a large board into columns e.g. objectives; outcomes; summary; issues leaving room for comments from the audience where relevant. Alternatively, leave one side for formal headings, use the other column for comments, then rub each one out as you summarise and add it to the 'formal' side.
