    1. Know Your Rights & Boundaries

    Before being assertive, it's important to have a clear understanding of what you are entitled to and what you are comfortable with. Identify your boundaries and what you consider to be unacceptable behaviour.

    2. Use "I" Statements

    When expressing your needs or boundaries, try to use "I" statements rather than "you" statements. For example, "I feel disrespected when you interrupt me" is more effective than "You always interrupt me."

    3. Stay Calm & Composed

    When communicating assertively, it's important to remain calm and composed. Take deep breaths and speak in a measured tone, avoiding aggression or defensiveness.

    4. Be Clear & Specific

    Clearly express what you want or need, and be specific about the actions you would like to see. For example, "I need you to finish this report by Friday" is more effective than "I need you to work harder."

    5. Practice Active Listening

    Listening actively to the other person's perspective shows that you respect and value their opinion. It also helps you to understand their point of view better, which can make it easier to find a mutually acceptable solution.
